Despair, Inc. is one of the few companies (okay, the only company) that I willingly am on the mailing list of, because their, um, interesting line of products and, well, unique way of marketing them are always enough to get a good laugh every so often. But this week, they’ve released three new demotivational posters, and two of them really made me laugh out loud and think, “I gotta blog about this.”
And why shouldn’t I love their stuff, especially when 95% of their offerings have been rated as being perfect for “disaffected college students.”

A big high-five to the Despair, Inc. guys for their excellent stuff. If you haven’t seen their demotivators before, you might want to check them out.

Don’t ask me why cartoonists have such a clear view of reality, but the folks at the Joy of Tech prove themselves again and again. While the non-tech world may be busy grappling with whether McCain/Palin are telling the truth about that “Bridge to Nowhere” thing (Spoiler Alert: they aren’t), the tech world is trying to figure out Apple’s conflicting rules with the App Store. And the Joy of Tech folks have got it perfect.
It’s funny… because it’s true.

I don’t know what it is about cartoonists, but somehow they have an uncanny ability to break through all the craziness of our world, find the core, and then present it in a way that makes everyone go “Oh yeah!” The good folks at the Joy of Tech have done this a number of times before, and while I don’t point out every awesome comic that they produce (because it would be occupying too many posts on my blog), one of their latest, Signs You May Need to Get a Life, essentially verifies many of my thoughts about our internet age. Having a Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube may be okay, but there are people who take it to the extreme, and I think that this comic really addresses the central issue behind it: they really need to get a life. Get out of Second Life and pay more attention to your first one!
Anyway, high five to the Joy of Tech folks on this one.

Running the Numbers is an interesting set of photographs that analyzes just what we do to our planet and to ourselves as a society. For example, in the United States, we retire (throw out, recycle, you name it) 426,000 cell phones every day. Have you ever seen what 426,000 cell phones really looks like. Thanks to these images produced by one Chris Jordan, you’re about to find out.

I just had to highlight this latest Joy of Tech that just came out, which looks at the claims that Facebook is worth $15 billion. (Should YouTube be getting jealous?) However, what I like about the comic is the representation of Facebook in the middle of the strip about the annoying high school friends. Not that I think that any of my friends at high school are annoying, quite the contrary in fact, but I do think that Facebook is weird with the pokes and the wall and the werewolf stuff and all that crazy nonsense, and this comic represents that rather well. Given my, erm, uncanny experiences with Facebook, I really got a kick out of this comic.
Update: Fixed bad link. Thanks Skoker!

Remember back in 2004, when Apple said that they were not going to put photos in an iPod, instead opting to release the iPod photo? Well, in July 2005, The Joy of Tech released this comic which was just a prediction then, but now looks totally accurate, now that every single iPod has video in it (except for the shuffle, of course). It’s interesting to look back at it now, 2-3 years later.

After the question and answer picture as seen in one of yesterday’s posts, the guy went home and drew caricatures of everyone doing the things they wanted to do. Here’s mine: @_@

WordCamp is weird like that, as we’ve already established.
Check out the other cartoons.

The question: What is your blog and what is something that you would want to be in the future that is something that you aren’t right now?
The answer:

Yeah, that’s what WordCamp is like.
Be sure to check out the other photos.

The folks at the Joy of Tech are so creative, and today’s episode of their comic was just too cool to not blog about it. Unfortunately, today isn’t quite iCal Day yet, but that’s partially because they only do comics on a M-W-F release cycle.
Anyway, check out the comic!
