May and June were both REALLY busy, really intense months for me, which is partially why I got so little blogging in, and is also why I’m combining the Best Of for those two months. With three trips and plenty of exams and stuff, it’s just been never-ending. School may have ended on May 29th, but it only feels like summer vacation is just now starting for me, even though it’s already 40% over. Nevertheless, here’s my normally-monthly look back on the last two months.
Personal Life
May began right off the bat with the State PTA Convention in Long Beach, in which I spent time in Resolutions Hearings and co-presented two workshops: one on PTA Website Design and one on Student Involvement. Plus, in the middle of all that, I went to a local high school down in Long Beach to take my SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Level 2 and U.S. History, on which I got an 800 and a 770, respectively. Not too shabby.
Immediately after I got back, I hit the ground running on last-minute preparation for my AP exams in Calculus BC (which I took on May 7th) and U.S. History (which I took on May 9th), which actually felt a bit easier than the earlier practice tests had been. I’ll get my scores on those sometime in July.
With AP exams out of the way, school began to wind down, with finals starting on May 23 and lasting through to May 29, which was the last day of school. However, just as finals wound down, preparations for the music department’s big China tour wound way up, with a major tour meeting on May 15th (that got interrupted by a malfunctioning fire alarm), an early morning rehearsal on May 21st, an after-school rehearsal on May 29th, and an all-day rehearsal on June 2nd, along with concerts on May 21st and May 31st. Plus, as a junior, I got picked to play in the Graduation Orchestra, which had two rehearsals on May 27th and the graduation on the afternoon of May 30th. The tour lasted June 3-13, which I covered pretty comprehensively in my itinerary and recap of the trip.
I then had a week off in which I mostly recuperated from jet lag (I did have a night when I never fell asleep at all, which between that and the miserably tired day that followed was definitely not fun), and not much happened during that week other than one night in which I went down to East Palo Alto for an information session put on by Yale University. I then went to Boys State on June 21-28 which I covered really comprehensively in my Boys State recap post. (Boy, June just flew right on by, didn’t it?)
