Rant on Quitters and Losers Random Shutdown, I Have It
Feb 01

Well, just when you think that you’ve just closed out with the year 2007, the first month of 2008 ends, and suddenly 8% of the year has flown right by. Scary thought. However, January has come and gone for me, and so it’s time for another Webmacster87.info Best Of, for lack of my usual idiotic clever titles. By normal standards, January would be written down as a busy month for me, but by 2008 standards, knowing what’s on the other end of the tunnel this year, January has been mostly a drop in the bucket. Anyway, here we go with my monthly self-reflection.

Personal Life
January started out with the second week of my two week winter vacation, when I mostly wasted time until the last few days when I finally got it together enough to create a HUGE to-do list of everything that I needed to get done before school started. However, I did begin January by finally killing off my relationship with my previous web host (albeit three months early) and getting on a brand new one, which has been awesome for the entire month. I also completed a nice organizational refresh of PreviewCast.com to celebrate our return.
School started on January 8th, but I left almost immediately after I got back as I went to another State PTA board meeting in Riverside from January 10-12, which was much more productive and a much more pleasant travel experience than my October one.
Macworld ran from January 14-18, and while I had a general lack of excitement this year, I did go with our Aragon group on January 18 and got to interview a number of developers (see my detailed posts linked below). I also entered a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest, and won first prize, as well as receiving a standing ovation from the audience. On the actual holiday, January 21st, I rode the Freedom Train to San Francisco for the second year in a row, and participated in a very large (albeit wet, due to rain) march to Civic Center.
And, on Tuesday, January 29th, I attended an open meeting of the San Mateo County School Wellness Committee in Redwood City, and I think I’m now actually a part of their committee now as a student voice and a representative from PTA.

PreviewCast’s Lack of Macworld Coverage
In a rant, I dispell all of these websites going crazy over “comprehensive” Macworld coverage and claim that I won’t be doing any of it. I was lying, as it turned out.

Because in our messed up elections system, they’re the quitters and we’re the losers.

Did You Know?
I now own the domain name DouglasBell.us. (DouglasBell.com, DouglasBell.net, and DouglasBell.info were all taken.) I don’t know if I’ll ever do anything with it or not, but it’s mine now!
