Happy Halloween! Although these Webmacster87.info Best Ofs are traditionally for the first of the following month, October’s comes early to avoid conflicting with the Leopard Feature Presentation, which begins tomorrow. October was a slower month of Webmacster87.info until Apple announced details on the Leopard release–only five posts were made here on Webmacster87.info during the first half of the month. However, the Leopard announcement brought along the beginning of my extensive Leopard coverage, including a week-long Tiger-to-Leopard blogging series. In my personal life, October was a very long, drawn-out month that was primarily about trying to catch up on a long to-do list which I still haven’t conquered yet. And so, without further ado, I begin my spooky look back on the last month here on Webmacster87.info…
Personal Life
A few significant things did take occur in my life in the last month. On Friday, October 5th, I went with a small group of Aragon GATE students on a morning tour of Chinatown, which was fairly interesting, although the lunch we had was less than appealing. Later that weekend, I had an allergy test, which wasn’t a lot of fun, and got put on various remedies which haven’t yet FULLY fixed the problem, but we’ll see. I took the PSAT test on October 20th, and went to Long Beach October 24-26, which was a less than exhilarating experience.
Significant Posts from This Blog
Bell v. Allergies, Round 2
Not for the faint of heart who don’t like to hear over-detailed stories of what someone like me has to do twice a day now.
How Bloggers Can Help the Environmental Debate
My late-notice participation in Blog Action Day features an article that I wrote examining the significance of bloggers blogging about the climate crisis.
My First Thought on the New Leopard Announcement
It may be a short article, but it’s still significant. Apple thought my site looked cooler than their logo, so they changed their logo to look almost exactly like my site, but they refused to give me any credit for it! Maybe I should start a petition…
Tiger-to-Leopard Blog Series
Everyone else spent the run-up to Leopard highlighting all the wonderfulness that everyone would get to enjoy in the new OS. I take a different approach and highlight how long it’s been since Tiger came out to put our rapidly-changing world into perspective. Just be glad I didn’t try an XP-to-Vista blog series…
The Official Rant on My Horrible Trip to Long Beach
Reading happy stories where everything goes well is boring, so how about a good, old-fashioned rant?
Favorite Podcast Episodes
PreviewCast became a member of the Teen Podcasters Network, but has not been producing any episodes, and the future of PreviewCast is uncertain. More information on the show’s fate will be coming out soon. Meanwhile, phpBB Weekly has had its own share of jolts this month, as #033 was forced to be recorded off of TalkShoe due to them doing a server move without warning anyone, #034’s planned guest couldn’t make it, I was taking a test during #035 and the episode suffered horrible audio quality due to TalkShoe issues, not to mention having its release delayed a week, and my seven hour delayed return flight prevented me from coming on episode #036. Blah.
In short, I’m skipping this section of the Best Of this month.
My Google Popularity
Now this isn’t something I usually talk about too much, but because there’s not a whole lot to put in this Best Of, I thought I’d mention that if you Google “Douglas Bell”, Webmacster87.info is now finally on the first page of search results! Webmacster87.info is #6 on the Douglas Bell search, but strangely, my WordCamp caricature beats out my own website at #3. Maybe I should have asked the guy for some self-promotion? Oh wait, my site is in the picture. #10, also on Page 1, is a guest blog article from Lorelle on WordPress that I did.
Who do I have to compete with to get to the top of the page? Well, the #1 “I’m Feeling Lucky” spot for my name has my name at the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, and the #2 spot (was until recently the #1 Douglas Bell) is the Wikipedia article of my name which talks about mey name as a computer game developer from the 1980s and 1990s.#4 is an article written by Douglas S. Bell, among others, on Prostate Cancer, and #5 has my name on a “must see films” webpage. *Sigh*, it’s just not easy having a common name.
Anyway, have a happy halloween, don’t kill yourself on candy, and stay tuned for the Leopard Feature Presentation, which begins tomorrow, right here on Webmacster87.info!
