I know, I know, I’m losing it. Not only do I hate the iPhone hype, but I’m falling into the same boat–this will be my fourth blog post today alone, and all four are about the iPhone.

But I looked at Apple’s iPhone monitor and was surprised that California had a LOT of red dots for its iPhone sales. I thought it would be interesting to find out how the states are doing. So here’s a ranking of all of the states with Apple Stores in terms of how many still have iPhones in stock (by percentage). All of this data is as of 9:40 PM Pacific Time tonight.

Alabama (1 of 1) 100%
Arizona (3 of 3) 100%
Colorado (5 of 5) 100%
Connecticut (3 of 3) 100%
Delaware (1 of 1) 100%
Indiana (1 of 1) 100%
Iowa (1 of 1) 100%
Maryland (5 of 5) 100%
Massachusetts (6 of 6) 100%
Missouri (3 of 3) 100%
Nebraska (1 of 1) 100%
New Hampshire (1 of 1) 100%
New Jersey (9 of 9) 100%
New Mexico (1 of 1) 100%
North Carolina (3 of 3) 100%
Ohio (3 of 3) 100%
Oregon (3 of 3) 100%
Rhode Island (1 of 1) 100%
Virginia (5 of 5) 100%
Wisconsin (2 of 2) 100%
New York (11 of 12) 91.667%
Illinois (4 of 5) 80%
Pennsylvania (3 of 4) 75%
Georgia (2 of 3) 66.667%
Michigan (2 of 3) 66.667%
Tennessee (2 of 3) 66.667%
Florida (8 of 13) 61.538%
Texas (7 of 12) 58.333%
Oklahoma (1 of 2) 50%
Minnesota (1 of 4) 25%
Washington (1 of 4) 25%
California (5 of 36) 13.889%
Hawaii (0 of 2) 0%
Nevada (0 of 2) 0%
Utah (0 of 1) 0%
United States (105 of 164) 64.024%

It turns out that after the first three days of sales, about 64% of Apple’s stores nationwide still have iPhones in stock. Pretty good for such a hot product.
But what was surprising was that California ranked 31st out of the 35 states that have Apple Stores in terms of percentage of stores with iPhone still in stock. Considering that California has 36 stores, the most of any state (almost 3 times as many as Florida, the next runner up), and that Apple’s home is in California, isn’t it kind of surprising how many stores are depleted of their supply? Even New York’s Fifth Avenue store still has iPhones! Either California stores haven’t gotten as many iPhones as other stores or else Californians are more crazy about the iPhone than anyone else in the country. It’s probably the latter reason.

The moral of the story is that Apple had better start making some more shipments, and quick! :P
