This was definitely one of the more active conferences at WordCamp 2007, where John C. Dvorak and Om Malik had an interesting discussion on Blogs vs. Journalism. Both bring up some interesting points, especially John. This is a must-see for die-hard bloggers. (By the way, I’m the one who yells out “dvorak.org/blog” in the beginning!)
Looking forward to some more WordCamp videos which will hopefully start showing up soon…

Larry recently had a friend blog about Wakoopa, and his friend basically ridiculed it and called it dumb and useless. Obviously, this meant that I _had_ to go try it out.
What’s my verdict? Yes, it is dumb and useless, but then again, so is Twitter, and Digg, and Last.fm, and Flickr, and practically every major Web 2.0 service out there. What matters is that it’s fun.

I got the SRS iWOW Plugin for iTunes from the MacHeist/MacUpdate Bundle a few weeks ago. SRS iWOW is a plugin in that it installs a window that shows up inside iTunes, although it’s only compatible with the Mac version of iTunes (SRS does offer a Windows app that does similar functions, but is not limited to just iTunes). Essentially, it’s like a mini soundboard/mixer for iTunes which lets you enhance the sound output using the SRS WOW HD technology, developed in part by Rogue Amoeba.

It’s hard to believe it, but there’s only two weeks left until school starts! However what I find weird is that although we’re so close to the start of the school year, we don’t know ANYTHING about it yet. Well, okay, we know that school will start on Tuesday, August 14th at 7:50 AM, but we don’t know anything else. We don’t know what days the holidays are, we don’t know if there will be a different bell schedule this year, absolutely nothing has been published either by my school or the school district. I mean, the 2006-07 was published online on June 27th last summer. Here we are with two weeks until the school year, and we’ve gotten no communications? Something weird going on. Hopefully we’ll get some stuff from the school soon, because I kind of like being able to plan out my year, you know?
Anyway, sorry for the recent lull in blogging, but that’s mostly because there hasn’t really been anything interesting in my life to blog about recently. However, tomorrow will be the first day of my Month of Reviews. And I’m not talking about baby reviews, these are well-written (in my opinion) and very detailed reviews covering a variety of things, and who knows? Maybe they’ll introduce you to some new stuff. So far, I’ve completed about the first two weeks worth of reviews (I’m writing them all ahead of time), and they’ll be showing up on my blog at 6:00 AM Pacific Time each morning. I hope you enjoy them!

This was an interesting article I found on Digg (I’ve been looking for something to actually blog about!). It seems that last week, new, stricter ENERGY STAR specifications for computers went into effect. Just like that, Apple has gone from having all of its consumer-level computers be ENERGY STAR compliant, to none of its computers. Strange given that they’ve had a couple of months to get with the program, however they apparently have six more months to catch up. Let’s hope that better energy management is one of the features coming up in those new Macs that all the rumor sites are abuzz about…

After the question and answer picture as seen in one of yesterday’s posts, the guy went home and drew caricatures of everyone doing the things they wanted to do. Here’s mine: @_@

WordCamp is weird like that, as we’ve already established.
Check out the other cartoons.

Well, no one came to the episode that I had scheduled today for PreviewCast, but it’s okay. So here’s what I’m going to do instead. Today, I’m focusing on taking pictures and publishing them on Flickr. I’ve already published almost 80 photos today from WordCamp. Tomorrow, instead of a camera in hand for most of the day, I’ll have my microphone in hand, interviewing people here to talk about WordCamp, WordPress, etc. (similar in style to PreviewCast #037). I might still take pictures, but there won’t be as much of an emphasis on getting pictures out on my Flickr as I have had today.
Larry will be going away for awhile, but I still want to try to get a regular episode of PreviewCast done so that we can talk about some tech news. (Last week’s episode of PreviewCast never exactly came to fruition due to various reasons.) I’m going to try to chat with some people and hopefully organize an episode (yes, without Larry, I’m sad to say) sometime this week, which will be #041.
Anyway, back to the excellent-so-far Designing the Obvious session, here at WordCamp!

The question: What is your blog and what is something that you would want to be in the future that is something that you aren’t right now?
The answer:

Yeah, that’s what WordCamp is like.
Be sure to check out the other photos.

This weekend is the 2007 WordCamp conference at the Swedish American Hall on Market Street in San Francisco, CA. I had a great time last year, and this year will be there again, although not with a video camera. I, um, lost it at Macworld this year. However, I’ll probably be doing something else with a microphone this time, either by doing a live conventional episode of PreviewCast or else interviewing people. Or maybe both. It all depends how everything works out. Boy, I need a small voice recording device bad. Regardless, you can expect the PreviewCast coverage to show up online early next week. Thank goodness I won’t have to edit video this time!!!
I don’t know if I’ll be doing any blogging while down there, although I may do like summaries of the day while down there. I will have my camera with me, so depending on my ability to find time, you might be interested in checking out my Flickr photos during the day. I might update them during the day, if not, I’ll definitely try to get them updated in the evening/night. However, as there is free wifi being provided, you can be guaranteed that I’ll be keeping my Twitter up-to-date with everything that’s going on. And of course, there’s plenty of places to find WordCamp coverage this year.
Oh, and did I mention that WordCamp is two days long this year?
So here’s to what will be sure to be a great weekend! San Francisco, here I come! (Again.)
